Who are we?

Disability Counseling Institute was created to be a source of support and information to those impacted by disabilities and chronic illnesses. There is a growing need for disability competent counseling, psychoeducation, and awareness within the medical and social service communities. Our goal is to provide therapy services, link people with culturally competent providers, and provide training to professionals ranging from basic awareness to expert.

Sarah Clark, LMFT, LMHC, CVRT

Sarah Clark is the founder of Disability Counseling Institute. She is a licensed counselor and certified vision rehabilitation therapist. She began her career of working with people with disabilities as a rehabilitation teacher for people with visual impairments. She went on to get a Master’s degree in Counseling from Barry University. As someone who personally had to adjust to losing vision she knew how challenging it is to adjust and live with a disability. The limited number of people available to help led her to make disability counseling one of her focal areas.

Sarah uses a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and adjustment counseling techniques to help her clients cope with and adjust to their new way of living. She helps people shift their perspective about their disability and integrate it into their identity. For those who have already adapted and accepted their condition, she is able to provide disability competent counseling to assist them in coping with challenges.
